Crystals can grow in a variety of different shapes, colors, and sizes. This geochemistry kit allows students to explore crystal structure and formation by growing their own crystalline minerals. Each group of students will grow and observe 4 different crystals over the course of a week. Along the way, they will learn about the rock cycle and how mineral growth fits into it. This kit is a fun and hands-on way to introduce students to the rock cycle and mineral formation. Providing enough material for 15 groups of students, this kit also includes a teacher's manual, student study guide copymasters, and material safety data sheets (MSDS). This activity aligns to Next Generation Science Standards HS-ESS2-5, MS-PS1-1&5, MS-ESS2-1&4, and relates to cross cutting concepts such as structure and function, scale, portion and quantity, energy and matter, and stability and change.
