Geology is the study of the Earth’s physical structure, its history, and the processes that act on it. It is concerned with the solid Earth and the rocks of which it is composed. Geology also includes the study of the solid features of any planet or natural satellite, such as Mars and the Moon. Famous geologists include Florence Bascom, Marie Tharp, William Smith, and Charles Lyell.
