- IDENTIFY ELEMENTS USING COLORED FLAMES || The flame test is an analytical technique used for the identification of certain elements, primarily metal ions. This experiment incorporates small candles and a spectroscope to determine which element is causing the colored flame
- ACTIVITY || Learners will simulate how geologists and scientists use the flame test for fieldwork. By observing the color and spectra of light emitted from a flame viewed through a spectroscope, they will be able to determine the element that gives the flame its color
- EXCELLENT FOR REMOTE LEARNING || Perfect for distance learning and home schooling - includes instruction manual, worksheets and enough materials for 2 groups of students. Makes an exciting home science project!
- MATERIALS INCLUDED || Kit includes mineral salt alcohol solution, sand, color flame candles, candle holding trays, diffraction grating slides, spectroscope and a micro-burner
- INNOVATING SCIENCE || Innovating Science distance learning kits are designed to offer engaging activities and educational content to for teachers to use with small groups and to distribute to remote students, or for parents with learners at home. Kits incorporate applied math and science principles into home school and distance learning projects
The flame test is an analytical technique often used for the identification of certain elements, primarily metal ions. The color of the flame is observed, and the spectra of light emitted from the flame is viewed through a spectroscope. The traditional flame test poses safety concerns for students in a laboratory setting, however, this kit minimizes these concerns by utilizing small candles that are easier to manage. There is no loss in the clarity of the emission spectra, making it easy for students to observe and deduce what element is causing the colored flame. Kit contains an Instruction Manual and enough materials for 2 groups of students.
