Innovating Science green fuel cell kit is used to demonstrate how energy can be produced from yeast using a fuel cell. Students set up a simple cell, and use yeast and a dye capable of entering yeast cells to determine if harvested electrons can produce a current for detailed study. The kit also can be used as a tool to stimulate discussion about alternative energy sources. For hands-on learning, the kit has materials for 15 groups of students, including yeast, D-glucose, phosphate buffer, potassium ferricyanide, methylene blue chloride, bottles and caps, connecting wire with alligator clips, carbon electrodes, and filter paper strips. The filter paper strips measure 1/4 x 1/4 inches (L x W), and the connecting wire measures 12.0" (L). (L is length, the horizontal distance from left to right; W is width, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The kit has a teacher's manual and student study guide copymasters for instructional use, and a safety data sheet (SDS) packet for product information and handling procedures. The kit is suitable for age 13 and older with adult supervision, and meets the requirements for Department of Transportation (DOT) small quantity exemption 173.4, and conforms to 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 173.4 for domestic highway or rail transport only. What's in the Box? (1) instant yeast, dry (10.0g) (1) dextrose R/G anhydrous (D-glucose) (25.0g) (1) phosphate buffer pH 7.0 (7.5g) (1) potassium ferricyanide 1.0M (5.0mL) (1) methylene blue chloride 1% Aq (5.0mL) (30) bottles (15.0mL) (15) bottle caps (15) connecting wire, red with alligator clips, 12.0" (L) (15) connecting wire, black with alligator clips, 12.0" (L) (30) carbon electrodes (20) filter paper strips, 1/4 x 1/4 inches (L x W) Teacher's manual Student study guide copymasters Safety data sheet (MSDS) packet
